Flute and picolo are the same series of instruments,and their exterior are quite kindred, but shorter than flute, its sound is higher than flute on octachord.
In bass area: the sound is not sonority but quite concinnity, like Chinese bamboo flute, less appearance in the band.
In mediant area: bright and smooth.
In super treble area: sonority and silvery with strong penetrable effect which is often used for performance.
It is the most treble in the orchestra and brass band owing to its sonority, silvery and coloured tamber. It is suitable to play various of lyric and cadenza music. In the band, with its strong penetrability, it can make whole band unique style by ingenious exertion.
There are two sorts of flutes,woodwind and metal one.There are no differentce between them both on playing skill and exterior.The wood one is with smooth and thin sound,the metal one is of largo and bright.
In bass area: deep and slight raucous, very fair-sounding. When playing softly, it likes Chinese national instrument " Xiao ".
In mediant area: bright,soft and grazioso.
In treble area: clangorous,not easy to softly play.
In super treble area: the sound will be acerbity, it is scarcely be played normally unless to repeat higher octachord rhythm.
Flute is the important compose in orchestra ,brass band and woodwind reprising, also it is performed as solo with beautiful sound and colourful skill. It can express high quality music with andante, largo and lyric cantus.
